Monsters
Welcome traveler. I'm an elf named Mero. Do you want to know about this book? It is my sketchbook. I have been drawing the monsters we have come across on our journeys. We have seen rocs and sirens and satyrs. The drawings are of some of the monsters and other creatures I've come across while traveling. Have you come across any yourself? No? Well, if you really want, I could show you. But don't judge me or my skills.
- Rhinogs are the size of large dogs or wolves. They hunt in packs, and while not as fast or agile as a wolf, their armor protects them from injuries. Their name sounds like it would be a mix of 'dog' and some other animal, but I'm not sure what.
- Rocs (not rocks) are giant birds with wings that can block out the sun. Their names are easily confused with stones, so be clear when warning people about them. There was one time that didn't go well for one of my friends...
- Knife Trees. These are the closest things you'll find to sentient trees. They can throw their sharp knife fruits at you, which can penetrate iron with enough force. They need blood to sprout. Used by elves as their knives, arrows, and spears.
- Sirens. Masters of manipulation, especially with their voices, if you can break through their illusions, they're usually not very powerful. But they are vain.
- Satyrs are base creatures more obsessed with satisfying their lusts than creating a civilization. Instead of hair, they grow plants and get some energy through sunlight. And no, you're not getting a drawing of the female counterpart, the nymphs.
- Remnants. These things are...creepy is the best word to describe them. They can't hurt you, and will pass right through you as well as walls. They won't seem to notice you unless you use magic. They're called remnants, but I don't know of what.
- Dark moths. Giant bugs...ugh! Whose idea was this? Not quite like real moths, as their proportions need to be different to support themselves, they can glide and shake off scales that can blind you. Hit them in the underbelly.
- It's not an insult to call koracki dumb. These tall docile swimmers are often found at docks and working on boats. They're friendly enough, unless severely provoked. I have a friend who has blue skin like them, but she's a lot prettier and smarter, so we're not sure what she is.
- Elves. This is my kind. We differ from humans in several ways: Our hair is the color of leaves in fall. We can have small plant fibers called spores growing on us instead of hairs. These fibers can be used to place plants on as living clothing. We use bows and arrows because we don't like the smell of blood, the iron makes us nauseous.
- Dwarfs. They're insane, nothing more to it. I mean, they actually like living underground, using crystals they find to grow their food. With so much iron in their blood, they're resistant to magic. Oh, and I think they're all male. Either that, or they hide their women away, because I've never seen one without a beard, or mane as they like to call them. As if they were lions, hah!
- Sprites are like little elves that fly on flower petals. And are multi-colored. And can't think independently without the Faery Queen. Actually, they're not that much like elves after all.
- I've never seen a dragon, nor do I know if they exist, but here's what I think it would look like.
